  • "NO FRIZZ" - Impossible or Achievable?

Lately, there seems to be a curly hair movement suggesting that the phrase “No Frizz” is some kind of mythical idea. Some curly hair influencers have even gone so far as to personify "No frizz" as an imaginary character that is impossible to ever find or achieve. They believe we should gladly accept flyaways and that it is mentally unhealthy to try to achieve a frizz free look. On the other end of the spectrum, for people who are not part of that movement, the phrase “No Frizz” is a motivating idea which prompts them to create immaculate hairstyles without even one misaligned strand. They believe that any frizz implies laziness or lack of care about one's appearance. But what is frizz? Does frizz really need to be a four-letter word? And is there a way to find a compromise between different curly hair belief systems? The word “Frizzy” is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “not smooth or neat, because individual hair shafts are variably wavy and do not align together”. Naturally curly hair is generally frizzier than straight hair because natural oils on a curly haired person's scalp can't travel down the hair shaft as easily. As a result, frizz is often more noticeable in textured hair. Also, any damage in hair strands makes it easier for internal moisture to exit, leaving the hair drier than it should be regardless of hair being straight or curly. In addition, there are some secret external factors which contribute to frizzy hair that are not commonly known such as: which ingredients to avoid in high humidity, heat styling, using harsh products, not using enough product, diluting products too much, not using enough hold, washing too often, and towel drying your hair. It is normal and expected for curly textured hair to have a little frizz. According to Curly Hair Specialist Athena Padilla, "if you want to tame, reduce, and manage frizzy hair, this IS possible with the right hair routine, effort, and products”. If you look on Athena's Website Homepage/How to Begin, you will see her original definition of frizz as a play on words which put frizz into a mentally healthy perspective. She compared dealing with frizzy hair to any other challenge in life, such as stress or trials. She explained her original definition of frizz by saying, "Healthy FRIZZ is beautiful and it’s not only in the eye of the beholder, it really doesn’t have anything wrong with it. It’s the unhealthy frizz that we want to remove and manage. Leave the worrying out. Believe in your inner beauty, and the true beauty of others. That’s how to take the FRIZZ out of life! Remember, you are a #10 inside and out.” If we understand that people were afraid of the word frizz in the past and solely had a goal to remove frizz then we can grow from that; we can remind people that healthy frizz, natural curl texture, or flyaway strands of hair have nothing wrong with them and should be embraced as a part of life. We stand by this healthy minded movement to understand frizz as it really is, and that it’s possible to give hair what it needs without feeling exhausted mentally or physically. A little hard work never hurt anyone. This viewpoint on frizz evolves gracefully as the world's curly hair philosophies change from a negative to a positive perspective. Wanting to now embrace frizz more fully all while achieving our hair goals and life dreams is still everyone's personal choice. And definitely keep in mind that no matter what your hair looks like, you truly are beautiful. As you strive to reduce frizz or damage in your hair, we can support you through Personal Hair Coaching, Forums, Learning Charts on Facebook, Videos, Custom Natural products, and Hair Routine Tips! Empathetically, just as it’s okay to encourage and support someone who wants to be the next president for example, it's not our place to discourage or un-inspire them from what they truly want. Managing frizz can be a way of life that is kept in balance as we understand our limits and our hair’s condition. For instance, Athena may personally get frizz-free curls for a 1-hour photo shoot (because that is an art form some people love to achieve) - but the next day while chasing her kids around she’ll throw her hair into a messy bun and that's just as incredibly beautiful. Let’s start a NEW movement! No Frizz 10 Naturals was chosen as a company name to be readily recognizable to those looking to reduce frizz in their curly hair. However, our products are designed for all hair types, and we want to be enticing to all consumers, whether they have straight, wavy, OR curly hair. We are also developing a natural skincare line, and we want everyone to know that our products are for all your skin needs. With that in mind, and to find a compromise between different curly hair belief systems, we are transitioning from being referred to as “No Frizz 10 Naturals” to “NF10 Naturals”. The acronym NF10 can have many different personal meanings from "No Frizz - You're a 10" to "Never Failing", to "Naturally Fetching", or a personal favorite, "Notably Fabulous Skin & Hair Care – You’re a 10.” What does NF10 mean to you personally and what is your curly hair philosophy on life? • Clarifying vs Detoxing Your Hair

There are so many articles and advertisements about clarifying and detoxing your hair. But, what’s the difference? Why do we even need to worry about that? I figured it’s as good a time as any to get this sorted out along with the why's and how's about clarifying vs. detoxing out hair. It was CRAZY HAIR DAY and now you really need to get off all that product BUILD-UP! DO I EVEN NEED TO CLARIFY OR DETOX MY HAIR? Maybe...probably. First, you need to determine if you have build-up in your hair. But, honestly, if you haven’t done a detox in a while, you probably need to do one pronto! Some products (not mine!) contain ingredients such as silicone, to help reduce frizz and increase shine. However, these products are not water-soluble and do not absorb into your hair. Rather they sit on the hair and depending on your routine, these products may not be removed at each wash and can continue to build up over time. Also, mineral deposits can be build up from hard water. For those of us who co-wash only, can have build up of oils, etc. that need a good clarifying shampoo or detox to cleanse that excess debris away. So, what does that build up look like? If your hair looks dull and doesn’t have that shine anymore or feels dry to the touch, it probably has build up. If your hair is limp and your curls just aren’t holding like they used to, it might be build up (or it might also be a moisture/protein issue...see my blog for more information on the Wet Stretch Test and find out what your hair needs.) Frizzy Dull hair NOW, THE SIMILARITIES In a lot of ways, clarifying and detoxing your hair do the same thing. They both remove excess or unwanted minerals (ie, hard water deposits), oil, and residue buildup. How they differ is largely in the ingredients and how the ingredients interact with your hair. Detox products and techniques often use natural products to remove unwanted material from your hair. Detox products may also include deep conditioners such as shea, moisturizing oils, and bentonite clay. On the other hand, clarifying products and techniques typically use synthetic ingredients that strip the material away. Also, clarifying products are commonly shampoos or similar products that do not add moisture back to the hair and are meant for only occasional use, so there is the risk of it leaving your hair dry if overused. Of course, products can use the terms interchangeably, "muddying up the water" a bit figuratively saying, so hopefully the details below will help you decipher what you need for your hair and what to look for in a product. CLARIFYING INGREDIENTS Clarifying products are typically shampoo-type products. They are designed for the occasional use to strip the hair of excess buildup and are NOT meant for regular use as they are drying. They clarify your hair by using chemical surfactants such as ammonium- or sodium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate, alpha-olefin sulfonate, chlorides and bromides, and cetyl-fatty alcohols. Sulfa-containing ingredients in particular are usually a very strong surfactant. Think about a super greasy skillet in your sink. You could use a mild detergent, but will it really get that stubborn grease off that skillet? Probably not. That’s when we whip out that Dawn dish soap to get that skillet clean. However, you’re not going to lather up with Dawn every day in the shower unless you want your skin to feel dry and crack over time. This is the same with clarifying shampoos and other products that contain strong surfactants. They have a purpose, but frequent use can be damaging and drying to your hair. No one wants to have a frizzy, dry mane. For obvious reasons, it is very important to condition your hair after using a clarifying shampoo. Additionally, strong surfactants can strip color out of hair, so if you have color treated hair, please make sure the packaging states that it is color safe!! For those with skin conditions, such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis, you might want to check the label first. It is best to use products with salicylic acid that helps with these conditions. It’s not very helpful to clarify your hair, if it just aggravates an existing skin problem by leaving your scalp too dry and triggering it to produce even more oil. DETOX INGREDIENTS One of the biggest differences between clarifying and detox products, besides the moisture issue discussed above, is that detox products also address removing environmental toxins. Our hair is exposed to anything and everything in the air...and it adds up over time. Some ingredients that are commonly seen in detox products include Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, and Centrimonium Chloride. These products are typically milder surfactants that are fairly gentle to the hair and help to reduce frizz and other “symptoms” of dry hair. They can also help reduce skin irritation that can be caused by other stronger surfactants. Some ingredients, such as Cocamidopropyl Betaine can also be used in cosmetics as an emulsifying agency and thickener as well as in conditioners to help reduce static. Additionally, detoxing products can help retain the color in color-treated better and help it last longer. WHAT DETOX PRODUCT SHOULD I USE? Great question! I highly recommend using NF10Naturals Mix-in Detoxifying Cleanser. The high pH of 9, is great to detox and deep cleanse your hair. When it comes to most detox shampoos, they are only able to be used periodically to clean away the excess stuff in your hair, but NoFrizz10 Natural Detox Cleansers can be used regularly by those who have a normal to oily scalp. The longer that you leave it on your hair, the deeper it will detoxify. For a really deep detox leave on for 1-2 hours. Even just 20 minutes does a great job though. If quickly rinsed away rather, it will not be harmful to use and it still smooths rough frizz and brings shine and bounce back to the hair. So, this is a great curly girl approved sulfate free/salt free shampoo for people who go to the gym often or who are on the oily side. If your scalp is normal to dry and you need a more gentle cleanse, than we also offer a pH 5 version that's available. You get to choose your natural scent provided from essential oils too, How fun is that! HERE'S A FEW VIDEOS I HAVE CREATED ABOUT HOW TO DETOX YOUR HAIR (See more on my Youtube Channel Athena Padilla Trial 1 of NoFrizz10 Detox Shampoo (Also called a cleanser for body & hair.) A Specific Routine On How I Detox My Hair I used only 2 hand fulls of NoFrizz10 pH 9 Mix-in Detoxifying Cleanser on wet hair, then let it set on just under an hour, and rinsed. Get That NoFrizz10 Squeak! Results of using NoFrizz10 Detox Turn the volume up to hear the "squeak" sound as I pinch and slide my fingers down my hair clean hair. This means NO BUILD-UP! And a huge shoutout to #Straightupcurls on Instagram. I have learned so much from her. She is a great hairstylist and has a very unique approach to healing damaged hair. Great customer service too!! She has a great technique for detoxing hair that her followers love. I suggest using my NoFrizz10 pH 9 Detoxifying Cleanser instead of the Moo Goo Clarifying pH 9 that she uses though. With a couple slight variations to her routine you may find that you need to use much less product to detox! That's a huge plus. She suggests to use over a cup of Moo Goo pH 9 Shampoo! Ouch on the wallet! I was able to get a squeak to my hair on a variation of her routine using only a handful of my NoFrizz10 pH 9 Detoxifying Cleanser set on for less than 1 hour! It's possible that if your hair has more build-up that it will take longer. She suggest using Moo-Goo for 8-9 hours. "Ain't nobody got time for that!" LOL. I was so excited that my hair squeaked so quickly using NoFrizz10 Detox, and so I have shared my routine with you below! Comment below to let us know how it works for you. HERE'S MY FULL DETAILED DETOX ROUTINE FOR YOU! This is similar to #Straightupcurls method, except it uses much less product, NoFrizz10 pH9 Mix-in Detoxifying Cleanser, and less time set on. Treatment: 1. Wet hair, apply a couple hand fulls of NoFrizz10 pH 9 Mix-in Detoxifying Cleanser . Rub on and distribute throughout hair. Let set on up to 1 hour. Rinse. 2. Afterwards, use a bond repairing treatment such as k18 khairpep or Olaplex #3.(heals keratins bonds and strengthens with amino acids). Leave on for 15 minutes, don't rinse. 3. After that, put on a protein free deep conditioning mask such as NoFrizz10 SOAK Conditioning Lotion, then leave on overnight. Everything is then rinsed off in the morning. Repeat every 4-8 weeks. *If you color your hair and have a hard time with getting the color to stay then doing the 3 steps treatment as I described above is very helpful the day before coloring. Rinse the morning that you'll be coloring. (Find more NoFrizz10 Naturals product demo videos posted on our public Facebook page... • Easy Curly Hair Routine - Only 3 Steps

Wash and Style Your Curly Hair with NoFrizz10 Products in Three Easy Steps Maybe you’ve recently started embracing your natural curls and don’t know where to start. Or maybe you’re looking for a simpler routine. There’s conditioners, gels, slip agents, mousses, serums, and the list goes on. Before you know it, you’ve got a bathroom countertop full of products and no idea which to use. What if we simplified it down to just two products? Yes, ONLY 2 PRODUCTS! That’s it! Below, Athena Padilla describes how to use her two favorite NoFrizz10 products in a 3 step simple hair care system. It's such an easy routine. Read our blog or watch in a quick video here. At the end of our blog, look for more on how to style curly hair: tips and techniques. STEP 1: CLEANSE Any beautiful art needs a clean canvas, so the first step is to wash your hair. Whether you are using shampoo, lo-poo, or co-washing, get that gorgeous mane of yours clean. If you aren’t familiar with co-washing, it is using conditioner to clean your hair. It does require some extra scrubbing, but leaves hair feeling silky and moisturized. Athena uses the NoFrizz10 Light Moisture Conditioning Cream to co-wash her hair in her video below. Using a Lo-poo is another great option for normal to dry scalp and it can save you time in your routine because it's basically a conditioner mixed with a shampoo. You might not need any conditioner after a Lo-poo. At NoFrizz10, we have 2 lo-poo's to choose from, either the Moderate Moisture Cream Cleanser or the High Moisture Cream Cleanser. Shampoo should be used for a deep cleanse as needed, so usually once a week or every other week is often enough, but for people with an oily scalp or who work out often, they will want to shampoo more often. Either way, we suggest alternating between the different types of cleansers from time to time such as, one day using a more moisturizing wash, and the next wash day using a shampoo. STEP 2: CUSTOMIZE This is the fun step where you get to moisturize and prep your hair. If you used shampoo or a Lo-poo to cleanse, than all you'll need is a separate conditioner that you can leave on your hair and a Priming Gel. In the video below, Athena uses the same conditioner that she did for co-washing in the customize step by mixing it in her palm with the Essential Slip Priming Serum so her whole routine is only 2 products! For NoFrizz10 Products, you can find them here. You get to choose the moisture level for your hair type. Level 1 is light moisture. Level 2 is moderate moisture. And Level 3 is extreme moisture. If you need help figuring out what moisture level you need, we recommend contacting us on our website. You can mix the two products together as a sort of cocktail in your hand as Athena does in the video below or you can layer the products one after another. Your hair...your preference! However you decide, just be sure to distribute these two products evenly throughout your damp or wet hair and detangle well. STEP 3: SMOOTH No one wants frizz! The trick to omitting frizz is simply, smoothing the hair. It’s essential. While your hair is still damp and after you have thoroughly applied the product throughout your hair, you’ll want to use a Denman brush or a fine tooth comb to smooth your hair out. As you do this, curve your hair up and away from your scalp to help create volume. OPTIONAL STEPS: At the end of this routine, it's a good time to twirl and enhance any curls using Athena's Ribboning Technique! Many people love to scrunch their hair, twirl, and diffuse. This is entirely up to you! Then, using a microfiber towel or a thin cotton t-shirt cloth carefully squeeze out any excess moisture (be aware that terrycloth towels grab hair strands and reintroduce frizz!). It’s that simple!! For sleeping on damp curls be sure to watch Athena's PILLOW PLOP TECHNIQUE! If you would like personalized help, contact Athena to book a personalized consultation. • How to Make a Refresh Detangling Styler that Actually Works!

NoFrizz10 Detangle & Define Re-fresh Styler (Also called, Anti-Frizz Styler Liquid) Created & Owned by Athena Padilla, LLC Email me for questions or for water resistant labels at athenawall@hotmail.com Visit my website to get a full recipe and for more information. www.NoFrizz10.com As much as you might think that mixing a little conditioner with water in a bottle is good for your hair, you may want to consider the problems associated with these type of DIY treatments. Keep reading to learn more on this topic. If you've been around long you may have noticed that there's a lot of talk about how easy it is to make a simple hair refresh product at home in just seconds as mentioned above. But, if you've tried any of them you have quickly realized that they don't live up to all the hype. In this blog, I am going to give you lots of hope, styling tips, preservative measurements, some instruction, and a link where you can order an easy & inexpensive downloadable recipe of my wonderful NoFrizz10 Refresh Styler, that ACTUALLY WORKS!! Prepared Product HERE. When we try to mix conditioner and water together, we almost never get the right ratio. I've heard so many complaints about DIY refresh sprays. Most people complain that it ends up being too heavy for their hair. They may also have the opposite problem which is that the water content is too high and it causes their hair to frizz. And they are always having to re-shake it back together because it separates. blah! You may have heard to add a little oil to your conditioner and water refresh mixture. But without actual measurements, and knowing the proper oils for your hair, this quickly became a messy situation. Read my blog HERE all about the different moisture levels of oils and which ones may be best for your hair type. Bacteria can also be a problem with the DIY recipes you find online. Adding extra water to any product creates a breeding ground for bacteria, fungus, mold, etc. EEEkkk!! On the other hand, If you are bothering to make a new batch of refresher every couple of days, then you are probably exhausting yourself. Let NoFrizz10 Help! And what about Frizz control? Hellooo!! After applied, gently pinch a lock of hair between thumb and finger, and then repeatedly slide in a downward motion starting at the ends of hair and working your way up until all tangles slide out. There is generally no need for tools or to run fingers through hair, so snagging on a tangle is very rare and this is the most comfortable way to detangle kids’ knotty hair! Smoothing curl clumps in this way aligns all the hairs into the same direction so that no strand is left behind or confused and they do not cross every which way, so frizz goes Bye-Bye! • Just Starting Your Healthy Hair Care Journey?

"I've already clarified my hair and I've been trying out Curly Girl Approved products. I even started a journal to record my progress, but then why doesn't my hair look better, YET?" (I know time is my friend on this journey, but STILL!) - Anonymous Beginner. Learn How To Get Moisture Back Into Your Routine HERE. Learn the 5 Do's & Don't to Prevent Frizz HERE Several things may improve your hair & reduce unwanted frizz for curly or straight hair. I've been on my journey for 4 years. Let me share with you some important ideals that I try to live by in my hair care journey that you may have missed. UTILIZE THE NoFrizz10 WET STRETCH TEST CHART My Wet Stretch Test Chart is different than any other chart about elasticity out there everyone. That's why I created it. I have yet to see any new charts that top mine, just saying. Learning to Utilize the Wet Stretch Test to it's full advantage will help you understand how your hair reacts to individual products. You can do this test after rinsing out your cleanser, for instance, to see if the cleanser dried out your hair too much. Or, you can do the Wet Stretch Test after doing a deep conditioning treatment to see if it provided enough moisture/protein or possibly too much! (Too much moisture or too much protein is a thing...not good.) Try doing a Wet Stretch Test, always on only shed hair of course, after trying any new product! This way you can make important, needed changes to you routine that will actually make a difference. "Let's stop wasting so many hair products by only using them one or two times then wondering why they don't work. Instead, learn how to incorporate what you already have in your cupboards. You may be able to get some use out of those products yet." - Athena Padilla BE CONSISTENT Keeping a Hair Care Journey Journal (say that 3 times fast) is important, as you already know, but being consistent in your journey is what will actually offer answers and progress. It can also reduce a lot of unnecessary stress along the way. If at all possible, only make 1 change at a time in your hair routine, whether with products or techniques. Then, be consistent in keeping this new routine for at least 2-4 weeks and record your results. Try doing a Curl Care Pledge like I did at the Facebook links at the bottom of this post. Remember, you aren't just trying to figure out how your hair responds to ingredients, and whether or not you have finally found a lifelong routine, but you also want to become acquainted with each aspect of your routine. Poor product application technique is most often the main reason for not achieving your desired result. You'll want to consider spending some needed time to get really comfortable at doing a few techniques that you can appreciate. Doing them all is NOT necessary. Remember though, time is on your side in this journey! Check back every once and a while for new demo videos which I will link here for you to learn about useful techniques. If I play with my hair or run a brush through my hair it will loose definition and may even get breakage. Fly-aways are not the same things as frizz. Fly-aways are strands of hair that need to be placed into a "curl family" and may just need some guidance/direction to know where to go. Frizz is often rough, possibly kinky in comparison to the rest of my hair and comes from specific causes which can be identified in the Frizz Quiz. Fluffy hair is beautiful too! It's all in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes less product is more. My hair doesn't have to be perfect. I am a human being with a life. I am not a doll or a model. Heck, even models get to let loose sometimes, but if I want my hair to look perfect, it is normal to take about 3 hours, maybe more. My hair will not look the same on day 2 as on day 1. I'm stuck with my hair for better or for worse. Generally, creams and gels provide the thickest curl clumps with a flexible hold and mousse or hairsprays often cause stringy curls that go flat. I can have volume and definition! Book a Personal Consultation to get a personal training on Athena's technique. If I cut off all my new hair growth every time I trim, it really will never grow. And I can't know for sure if my hair is not growing unless I use a ruler then compare it precisely from month to month. All day volume is not really a thing, it's gonna fall, at least a little. That's why Athena created this Rassle Technique. As you go through your personal hair care journey, remember that you don't have to go it alone. I send you all my love and encouragement. • NoFrizz10 Protein Point System

NoFrizz10 PROTEIN POINT SYSTEM Does my hair need protein? What is the perfect protein blend to keep my hair balanced? Can I use protein if my hair is protein sensitive? How do I avoid protein overload? What kind of protein should I use? You’ve likely heard that hair needs protein and you may have even used an app that tells you if your products have protein ingredients. If so, you’ve learned that reading product labels is not for the faint of heart and knowing what is in your hair products is more important than ever, but what do we do with that information? With all the hair blogs out there these days, I was hoping to find that perfect trick that would work for me everyday of the year and that would still be personalized enough for my Facebook and YouTube followers. l scoured the internet to find answers to two simple questions, “How much protein does my hair need?” and “Is there a way to figure out how much protein is in my hair products?”. Sadly, the answers were unavailable. Something had to be done! That’s when I created the NoFrizz10 Protein Point System, which actually answers many of our common protein questions. Keep reading to unlock a revolutionary method for calculating protein in hair product ingredients and for giving your hair just what it needs. HERE'S SOME OF MY THOUGHTS ON THIS… When looking at ingredients, the ones listed near the top of the list are bigger portions than ingredients listed near the bottom of the list. But, what if one of the ingredients is a PROTEIN? If it's something simple like aloe or if it's something made in a lab like hydrolyzed silk, then how do we know which one actually contains more protein?? Testing proteins isn’t as easy as determining the weight of oil. (see my post here about oils!) So, I devised a numerical Protein Point System. No lab tests or experimentation needed, it's logical. Please note, this unique Protein Point System has been tried and tested by many people over the last 3 years in the curly hair community. It even works for people with straight hair. It has proven to be a no fail system that is safe for all hair types. It helped me sort through the different types of protein too. We are taught that if an ingredient is natural/non-synthetic, that the protein in that ingredient tends to be larger on the molecular scale. And if an ingredient is created in a lab or processed and has been hydrolyzed, for instance, that it's going to be smaller on the molecular scale. I know what you are thinking. Molecular scale, what?! Why do we care about molecule size? It’s important because the protein molecules are absorbed by the cuticle in the hair and depending on our hair type, the molecular size of each protein can make a big difference. If the protein molecule is too big, it is not going to penetrate the hair shaft of those with low porosity hair for instance. But, if it’s too small, it doesn’t help the cuticle enough at the surface for those with high porosity hair. Also related, according to “Protein 101 - Lots of Basic Information About Using Protein in Hair Products” blog at http://science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/ “Protein in products can...add a little extra support to hair - which is great if your hair is fine or medium, but can lead to rigidity and breakage if your hair is quite coarse and you use protein too often.” “Smaller proteins should be [chosen]... if you're new to protein or have coarse hair” and, “larger proteins tend to work well for fine and medium hair and even coarse hair occasionally.” Taking into consideration the protein content of an ingredient, our hair type, our strand density, and the molecular size of that protein, a blend of small and large molecule protein ingredients is generally suggested. I have also concluded that even though a protein ingredient may be listed at the end of the ingredient list, it may actually contain a higher strength of protein than the ingredients listed at the beginning. HERE’S WHY Google tells us that aloe contains almost 1 gram of protein per cup. Aloe contains carbohydrates and fats from the whole plant. But, hydrolyzed silk, for example, has been processed to isolate the protein. Can you imagine how much protein is in a whole cup of hydrolyzed silk? I doubt there are even any products that would use that much hydrolyzed silk in a typical 16 oz bottle! Therefore, a product could use a significantly small amount of hydrolyzed silk yet still contain more protein than another product using aloe as the protein of choice. Still confused? Here’s a simplified example that I think we can visualize easily. A cup of chopped apples contains about 13 grams of sugar. That’s equivalent to a heaping tablespoon of table sugar. The tablespoon of sugar is a much smaller volume than the apple, but they contain the same amount of sugar. That sugar has been processed and isolated from the whole fruit, much like the aloe and the hydrolyzed silk in the example above. HOW IT WORKS Taking into consideration how a protein reacts in my own hair, trying it on other people, and hearing other’s testimonials, I can figure that a lab made protein that is near the bottom of an ingredient list contains a medium to high strength of protein even though it’s in a small volume. Let's look at the ingredients list of this hypothetical 16 oz bottle of hair gel: water, aloe, glycerin, honey, xanthan gum, hydrolyzed wheat, sodium, and citric acid. It's likely that there is at least ½ - 1 whole cup of aloe in that bottle. So let's tally up a Protein Point Rating for this product as follows: we can say it contains 1 point of protein for the aloe. Rounding up won't hurt. Continuing, Google says that a cup of honey has 1.6 g of protein, but when a lot of honey is used in hair products it makes the hair incredibly sticky and hard so let's reduce that to one quarter the amount, which may still be high, but a little approximation here is fine. That puts the protein points for the honey in this product at about .4 points. And I'm gonna give hydrolyzed wheat 6 points based on the way that people's hair generally reacts to it in products. The remaining ingredients: water, glycerin, xanthan gum, sodium, and citric acid do not contain any protein, so they are given zero points. That's a total of 7.4 Protein Points in this bottle of gel! Protein Points range from 1 - 20 or higher, depending on the protein based ingredients in the products. Why am I using points instead of calling it grams per cup? Because you're not planning on putting a whole cup on your head are you? Maybe? Ha! We can approximate with this and that's OK. It is still very helpful. Here’s a graph with some typical protein ingredients used in hair products and their Protein Points. There is a more complete list in the next section. Ingredients such as coconut, rice water, peptides or flaxseed gel that tend to act like a protein in some people’s hair, but that do not actually contain any protein, are not listed here. WE HAVE PROTEIN POINTS, NOW WHAT? Have you looked at your products yet? Below is a table with common proteins that I have given points for. Use this information to practice counting the Protein Points in your products at home. Discover how much or little protein you’ve actually been putting on your hair! You may be surprised. *Tell us how many Protein Points your products have HERE. *I have calculated Protein Points for many popular hair products at the end of this blog. *Don’t forget to take a look! PROTEIN POINTS Based on grams of protein per 1 cup of ingredient unless otherwise specified, or if asterisked. *safe amount used in products, not 1 cup. If you are making DIY treatments at home please consider using the links below. Still confused? If you need help, I offer a service called "Product Ingredient Analysis" where I can add protein points for you. It’s only $5 for the first product label and $2 for each additional label. HOW TO USE THE NoFrizz10 PROTEIN POINT SYSTEM FOR YOUR HAIR? Are you familiar with the Wet Stretch Test? If not, check out my video and my Analyze Your Own Hair Chart. Basically, there are categories 1-5 in the Wet Stretch Test results: starting at category 1 in which the hair HAS too much protein (typically damaged and needs moisture) and it goes all the way up to category 5, in which the hair NEEDS a lot of protein (typically damaged and over-moisturized). With each category, there is a suggestion to use products with a certain number of Protein Points. See bottom of blog. I can deductively say that if your hair is quickly snapping during your Wet Stretch Test (category 1), then it would be wise to only use products that have 0 points of protein until your hair moves up on my Wet Stretch Test chart. If your Wet Stretch Test result is a category 2, using 1-5 Protein Points may be harmless if you aren’t protein sensitive. Please note that depending on how much protein overload your hair has or how damaged it is from processing it may take a while for hair to heal. For some people, it’s mere weeks, but for some it may be months to give the hair time to repair and sufficiently re-moisturize. Be patient! It didn’t happen overnight and it won’t balance overnight either. On the other end of the spectrum, if your hair stretches and shrinks back like an elastic rubber band during your Wet Stretch Test (category 3), then using products that have a total of 6-9 protein points would be satisfactory for you. Be sure to incorporate a balance of moisturizing ingredients along with protein. This is very important for hair strength and health. (Learn more on NoFrizz10 Moisture Levels Ranking System here.) If your Wet Stretch Test results show that your hair is in need of a deep protein treatment (category 5), then you'll want to use a product that has 15-20 protein points. If still experiencing wet frizz and frazzled hair strands, then more protein points may be used as long as you balance it with a proportionate amount of moisture. (Learn more on NoFrizz10 Moisture Levels Ranking System here.) NoFrizz10 PRODUCTS To fully simplify our lives, I have created NoFrizz10 products. I highly recommend them because you know exactly what ingredients are in your products and you can "finally get full control over protein in your hair!" Most NoFrizz10 products are even protein-free. Why would I make so many products without protein after all this talk about protein needs and protein points?! Because when hair does need protein, it's so much easier to use NoFrizz10 Concentrated Vegan Protein Drops instead of trying to add up all the protein points in all the products used in your hair. Protein Points are essential when looking through all your store bought hair products though, for sure! They can even be added to your products at home to increase Protein Points. Here’s a general table to reference for how to use these simple protein drops for our hair in conjunction with your Wet Stretch Test Results. • Oils for Hair & Scalp - Moisture Level System By NoFrizz10

Itchy scalp, dry frizzy hair… Oily scalp, greasy limp hair... Who wants to deal with these? There’s so much internet hype about how using oil in our routine helps, but which oil? There are so many different oils! Internet searches provide lots of vague information and they are usually based on people's personal and unique experiences or people with different hair types than what we may have. But how do each of the oils compare? Will an oil make my hair suffer from Hygral Fatigue (damage from over moisturized hair).  And which oils are best for making DIY products, for instance? Oil is definitely not a one-size-fits-all, so which should you use? Some are “heavier”, some are “lighter” they say, but which absorb into the hair best and which are best for deep conditioning? After a product left you with greasy hair, you may only be concerned with the serious question of, “How many washes will it take to finally get all this oil out of my hair?” Overwhelmed yet? I know I was. Anyway, I digress. There are so many questions. Let’s simplify this into one question. Which hair oils provide the least to the greatest moisture for our hair? I have never seen oils ranked on how they compare to one another in this way before, have you? I have read that argan oil, almond oil, and grape seed oil are all "lightweight oils". But what is really meant by “lightweight” when it comes to oil and which one is the lightest overall? I define lightweight to mean it provides the least or lightest amount of moisture vs heavyweight to mean it provides the most or heaviest amount of moisture when comparing oils. The term “heavy oil” usually makes us think that it's going to make our hair greasy, not absorb, and just build up on the outside of our hair strand, right? And a “light oil” we expect to moisturize and define our hair without making it limp. Although, realistically, this depends on our hair’s porosity and moisture level needs. Since there wasn’t any lists out there that ranked multiple oils in this way, and that’s what I really needed to know, I took on the challenge to test them myself! How I Tested Them My methods of testing them may have been slightly archaic, but I believe it is revealing nonetheless. With the tests described below, I was able to compare many different oils and create a list, ranking them from extremely lightweight oils to the heaviest weighted oils. First, I tested the viscosity of each oil. Wait. Tested what? Viscosity. Think about how water and molasses flow. Water flows easily, right? It runs or spreads very quickly. It has low viscosity. Molasses however flows, well...like molasses. It has high viscosity. So, to test this in the oils, I took one drop of each oil and placed it on a flat surface to see how much it spread out. Common sense tells us that a thinner lighter-weight oil spreads out farther than a thick, sticky oil (similarly to water vs molasses), and this was exactly what I saw. SHOWN: 1 drop of soybean oil, lighter (left). 1 drop of castor oil, heavier (right). Next, I wanted to see how far the oils travel along a flat surface by smearing them with a Q - tip. It seems logical that a lightweight oil would smear farther than a heavyweight oil. And it did. SHOWN: soybean oil spreads much further (left) where as castor oil barely smeared at all (right). Lastly, the third test, I analyzed the relative specific gravity. Again, with these terms? Think about oil and water. We all know, “they don’t mix” right? Well, not without a proper emulsion. But why not? Simply put, because oil has a lower specific gravity than water, so it floats on top. This got me thinking. Maybe the terms “light” and “heavy” don’t only refer to the moisture level of an oil or to how it feels on our hair, but they refer to the actual weight of an oil, like in fluid ounces on a kitchen scale.  So, if we are told that olive oil is considered to be pretty “heavy”, then we could speculate that it would not mix easily with an oil which was thought to be “light”, such as soybean oil. I used this concept to test which oils were heavier or lighter in comparison, by placing a drop of each oil, one at a time, into containers of different oils and watched carefully to see how they reacted.  I discovered that when I added drops of olive oil into a container of soybean oil, that the olive oil sank quickly to the bottom of the container. The difference in the specific gravity of each oil prevented the olive oil from easily dispersing into the soybean oil, just like when mixing water into a cup of oil, they don't mix. Each drop of the heaviest oils stayed collected as a little ball at the bottom of the container. Alternatively, when I did this the other way around by adding drops of a lightweight oil such as soybean oil, into olive oil, the soybean oil spread across the surface of the olive oil. It almost dissolved into the other oil and was no longer noticeable to the eye. Similarly, when I took what I suspected to be a medium weight oil, such as argan oil, and added drops of it into a lightweight oil like grapeseed oil, I actually saw a swirling effect from the argan oil. It took a little bit of stirring and shaking these oils together to get them to blend. SHOWN: 3 different oils being dripped into a container of jojoba oil. Grape seed oil - lighter weight than the jojoba oil, disperses onto its surface. (top left of photo) Olive oil - heavier weight than the jojoba oil, sinks, but swirls along the way. (middle of photo) Castor oil - heaviest oil, much heavier than the jojoba oil, sinks in a ball shape. (right of photo) You can test the oils and oil blends that you have at your home too! This way you can be sure to use the lightest oils as needed and the heavier oils in ways that are suitable for your hair type. Also, you may consider that some of your oil blends may need to be occasionally shaken and that certain oils may be more difficult to emulsify than others. Which Oils are Lighter or Heavier Weight? (BUY NoFrizz10 OILS BLENDS HERE) If you make your own DIY products or apply them directly to your hair for deep conditioning, for shine, to scrunch out the crunch, or however you prefer to use an oil in your hair, you need to know which oils are lighter or heavier. You can also buy our NoFrizz10 Oil blends that are premixed to give you the perfect Moisture Level that you're looking for for all your oiling needs. Then you can just mix them into your palm with the product that you're using for the day! So, here are the results of my tests from lightest weight to heaviest:  (Read from top to bottom, for the least to the greatest moisture.) *Chart does not includes butters, waxes, or conditioning ingredients and only represents the comparison of individual oils. *Remember that to achieve each level of moisture, combinations of oils may be used, and depending on ratios used, a mixture including oils from different moisture level oils may still reflect appropriate moisture levels. *NoFrizz10 uses oil blends that closely correlate to the moisture levels shown in this chart above. *Substitute hypoallergenic and gentle oils may be used in any NoFrizz10 Products at any time. *SPRITZ© (Light Moisture Level - for fine hair), SPLASH© (Moderate Moisture Level - for dense hair often curly), and SOAK© (High Moisture Level - for course or extra tight curls). NoFrizz10 Vanilla Bean Essential Oil NoFrizz10 Orange and Mango Oil Blend NoFrizz10 Lavender Oil Blend NoFrizz10 Mint Oil Blend What Does This Mean for Products? For the following reasons, when making hair products, I have had to change some of my typically used oils because I was looking to save money in my business, because they were unavailable, or because I wanted to start making my own oil blends which would allow me to remove harsh chemicals or unnecessary preservatives. I can also tell you through my experience of making natural hair products, that when I replaced oils in my recipes with different oils, I learned something quite surprising. Shockingly, what I found was that my new mixtures of oil blends were actually lighter weight than the previous oil blends that I had been using; even though I was using the same amount of ingredients (in volume), the new blend was lighter on the scale than the previously used, old blends. So, this is incredible! Lighter weight oils really are lighter weight! This revelation meant that I had to account for these differences in my NoFrizz10 recipes, so that I would be using fewer ounces of oil (by weight) even though the measurement (by volume) was the same. When I used my scale to measure from then on, I had to remember to adjust for the new lighter weight amounts. Which I was of course happy to do! My newly created product versions don't have less oil in them, necessarily; but rather, even lighter weight oils! Hooray! Now it is easier for me to be sure that I'm sticking to the NoFrizz10 - 3 Moisture Level System ©. With my products and recipes I am sure to include a lightweight oil blend in my SPRITZ Level 1 Moisture Products. Consistently, NoFrizz10 SPLASH Level 2 Moisture Products include a blend of oils that provide a moderate moisture level, and NoFrizz10 SOAK Level 3 Moisture Products include a blend of oils that provide a high level of moisture. That makes it so easy for you to get the moisture level you need! Ultimately I was able to find a way to make my products lighter weight, as well as a better value, safer, and more gentle. Double win! Which Moisture Level Is For ME? For FINE HAIR, use SPRITZ© Light Moisture Level For DENSE HAIR often curly, use SPLASH© Moderate Moisture Level For COARSE HAIR or extra tight curls, use SOAK© High Moisture Level *This Moisture Level System is owned and created by NoFrizz10. Why Can't I Just Use More or Less of Any 'Ol Oil? Oil is beneficial to your hair, when it's the right oil for your hair type! Too light weight and it leaves our scalp wanting more moisture and our hair dry and frizzy. Too heavy weight and it leaves our scalp oily and our hair greasy and limp. It doesn't work to use a small amount of a heavy oil if you need light moisture. It will still be too heavy! Conversely, if you try to use a lot of a light moisture oil, it will not provide the deep moisture you may need! The right oils for you leave your hair healthy, bouncy, and defined. We are now able to clear out our bathroom cupboards with products that don’t work for us and use what we have in ways that provide more consistently good hair days. Thankfully, we can avoid those deep conditioning experiments gone wrong which took shampooing 3 times to get all the oil completely out of our hair. Been there, done that! How Much Oil Should I Use Then? Choose the oil that is correct for your hair type, (YOUR HAIR OIL) as shown just above in "Which Moisture Level is for Me?", THEN choose use our suggested measurements depending on how much moisture you need: *Divide hair into 2-4 sections for average density.) *You may apply the oil directly to your hair, (wet or dry), or you may mix it into 1 Tablespoon a favorite product in your palm that you'll be using in your routine for the day, such as a conditioner or gel. For Light Moisture with YOUR HAIR OIL use 1 drop per section of hair. For Moderate Moisture with YOUR HAIR OIL use 2-3 drops per section of hair. For High Moisture with YOUR HAIR OIL use 4-5 drops per section of hair. "I love being able to incorporate the perfect hair oil into my routine so that I can avoid the extra time and mess it takes to deep condition.!" • How to Repair Uncontrollable WET FRIZZ

"My hair has been going crazy lately and it finally went psycho last night", I thought to myself, after about 6 months of using only protein free, lightweight products. I HAD to figure this out! This is not normal natural frizz. This is my hair "frazzling" right on my head because it wasn't getting what it needed! Watch me shockingly discover this as I demonstrate the Wet Stretch Test in my YouTube video called, Wet Stretch Test Gone Wrong. Natural frizz is beautiful and should not be of any concern. Styling hair into a more defined look is up to individual preference and natural frizz does not denote damage. Watch this video of my hair with no styling products to see what healthy natural frizz looks like. Rough, uncontrollable frizz, even wet frizz, is not the kind of frizz to have though ladies! Nothing would lay it down and my hair felt very coarse! Was it damaged? Take my Frizz Quiz to find out what kind of frizz you have and to see suggested products on the market that will improve you hair based on you personalized results and need. There had been a lot going on in my life and I was being very hard on my hair. I just didn't have time lately to deep condition and I was wearing it up a lot and dry detangling too frequently. I have never dyed my hair though, and I basically never use a straitening iron. I figured that I just needed a protein treatment but ignored it for too long. Not smart! That was the worst decision I've made to postpone it for as long as I did, because breakage and hair loss was setting in. Eeeek!! Yup, that's what I said. When hair is imbalanced from lack of protein or too much moisture it can suffer from breakage, but also hair loss. Even though I wasn't really doing anything to cause damage, I had to get my hair back into balance! I know often times we get nervous about starting a protein treatment but when done correctly and in due time, they are essential and can be incorporated easily with NoFrizz10 products when needed. When I go too long without a protein treatment my hair gets uncontrollable amounts of kinky frizz that forms all over my head. Low level protein treatments can help, but will not be sufficient. With extra effort I can generally smooth the frizz down against other curl clumps with a little NoFrizz10 Flaxseed Cream Gel or a little NoFrizz10 Perfecting Souffle' Curl Cream, but not always. If I go too long, it needs high amounts of protein and high amounts of moisture. Let me say that again, High protein AND High moisture. I didn't say moderate protein and low moisture, or high protein and moderate moisture, or any other combo. It will make a big difference when you listen to this important curly hair tip! I believe that wet frizz, the uncontrollable rough kinky kind, needs high protein and high moisture to be repaired. I tried using my favorite store brand ECO Gel and NOPE, got mad at that stuff this time!! It's a close second to my NoFrizz10 Flaxseed Cream Gel although, the Eco Gel was sticky on my hands and since I was at my wits ends, I put it on at full strength, hoping it would give my hair enough protein. But that just left my hair stiff and flaky. Woops. (Normally, Eco Gel leaves soft bouncy curls, but only if you don't use too much.) I made sure to use NoFrizz10's WET FRIZZ TREATMENT as follows... 1 Tablespoon of NoFrizz10 High Moisture Perfecting Souffle' Curl Cream 5 drops of NoFrizz10 Concentrated Vegan Balancing Drops 3 drops of NoFrizz10 Exotic Lightweight Hair Oil I mixed this in my palm, then applied it throughout all of my wet hair. (If more is needed to coat hair, then use the same ratio of 5 drops protein, 3 drops oil, per 1 TBL. of Defining Curl Cream.) This is considered a strong treatment, so I only left it on for about 15-20 minutes, then rinsed. Look in the HERE for more NoFrizz10 Oil Blends to choose from. For those of you who have never done a protein treatment before, please start with only 1 drop per 1 Tablespoon of cream, and only leave on for 5 minutes, then rinse. Once you get to know your hair better and it's signs, you will be able to adapt accordingly. For more info on how to understand what your hair needs and how to use protein drops correctly please order Athena's Healthy Hair Secrets Pamphlet! Basically, my hair needed high protein AND high moisture! And equal amounts of both. That's not generally something you can get from the products on the market. But with my routine and products above it can be customized. Later on, I came across a product on the market that can also do the job called Protein Power Yogurt Conditioning Treatment which I'm happy to share with you. For suggestions on a personalized routine with your hair situation, book a personal consult with Athena Padilla. After the NoFrizz10 "treatment" I rinsed, then applied a mixture of NoFrizz10 Essential Slip Guar Gum Gel, NoFrizz10 Anti-Frizz Liquid, and a little bit of NoFrizz10 Perfecting Souffle' Curl Cream. This is my favorite little curly hair cocktail! I Squished To Condished and diffused on cool to warm air. Thankfully, this really helped! Look at the shine and how much improvement that you can see in the after photo above. My hair felt less coarse, and very moist but not greasy the next morning after I Scrunched Out The Crunch. The treatment I ended up using provided 25 Protein Points © with high moisture from Mango Butter, Olive oil, Apricot Oil, and Vit E. For me, just one treatment was enough to fix my frizz problem, maybe because I got the protein and moisture level just right, but not all frizz is created equal. When I got protein overload at the beginning of starting the curly girl method, it took me over a month to repair my hair and feel like it was properly balanced again. Follow my 30 Day Curl Care Pledge HERE on Facebook to see how I treated my protein overload. Also, I can attest to the need for patience in these efforts, as generally, several weeks is needed at minimum to repair hair. For instance, people who come to me needing help starting the curly girl method often have very dry hair from over use of sulfates, so I put them on a high moisture, protein free regiment that they follow strictly for usually at least 2 weeks before they start to see improvements in their hair. See my Moisture Regiment HERE. (Curly Hair Maintenance Schedule) Everyone's hair can tolerate/handle different amounts of protein and at different increments of time, so some people may not need this much protein and some people may actually need much more. This is what so many of us on our healthy hair journey have to figure out for our own hair personally. Often times, the way it works out is that high porosity hair can handle protein regularly and that low porosity hair tends to use protein more sparingly. I only need moderate protein 1-2 times a month and other people need it weekly or daily. If I had been using protein as often as my hair wanted though, I would not have needed such a strong treatment and I would have been able to avoid the WET FRIZZ stage! There is also talk that we can infuse protein into our hair by eating protein rich foods. What do you think? Tell us HERE. • Protein Moisture Balance Test & FRIZZ QUIZ - with Results & Suggested Best Products For Frizzy Hair

Soon after I started the Curly Girl Method, my hair got brittle and dry. This was very abnormal for me, so I delved into the world of finding that perfect Protein Moisture Balance. I believe that I got protein overload from layering leave-in creams with gels in my hair for the first time in my life. I'm sure that doing more frequent deep conditioning also had something to do with it. I of course didn't want to loose the curl enhancement and definition that I was getting, but I did need to branch out and start incorporating protein free products. Finding protein free products was very difficult for sure. So many products on the market are full of junk, allergens, and high amounts of protein, so I decided to create my own natural product line! With the birth of NoFrizz10 Natural Products for Body & Hair, I was sure to include a simple way to control the level of protein and moisture in your hair all while healing and restoring the hair back to a healthy condition. Finally! My break through product line that easily gives you control over protein in your hair routine consists of mainly protein free products, 3 different moisture levels, customized products, and Protein Balancing Drops which allow you to adjust the amount of protein you need per day based on the results of the quiz below! Continue on through our blog as you take THE FRIZZ QUIZ below, to learn more about this delicate balance, what causes your hair to frizz, and how to analyze your hair's protein vs moisture levels at home, including resolutions to the most common curly hair problems and suggested products to help you with your quiz results! Frizz can be caused by damage, which we don't want, so... LET's Rule This OUT!! KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE! Choose the letter/s and number combination below that closely related to your personal hair situation to identify your type of frizz then look for the appropriate tips and products for your type of hair. Consider posting a picture of your hair in our page forum and share your results with us. Options: Letters P, O, K, D, and/or N + Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Ask for help if you're not sure. Contact us. LET'S BEGIN! LETTER CHOICES Notice the texture and quality of your hair, then choose one or more of the letter options below and write it down. P. Dry hair that has too much protein? (Overly dry/Webbing may be present.) O. Over moisturized hair that appears to be trying to escape the moisture and needs balance? K. A kinky texture that is much curlier and stiffer then the rest of your hair and needs a deep protein treatment? D. Damage, overly dry, breakage, split ends, old dead ends, razor edged cut, hair cut with thinning scissors, hair that is too short and growing back in, etc? N. Natural Healthy Frizz that could merely use a little styling? NUMBER CHOICES - WET STRETCH TEST CATEGORIES Before choosing a number option, do the Wet Stretch Test on showered wet hair. Wet Stretch Test: In the shower, wet hair with warm to hot water, collect loose strands that shed only. Take one stand and get a good hold of it on both ends, then gently pull to see if it will stretch. Release tension and watch how it reacts after being stretched! Do this test on a few strands to get consistent or averaged reactions through out your head of hair. Look below to choose your number option. 1. Wet hair snaps/breaks right away. 2. Wet hair strands stretch a bit then snaps/breaks. 3. Wet hair strands stretch and spring back like a rubber band. 4. Wet hair strands stay stretched out and lacks curl form. 5. Wet hair strands shrink back into an unnatural curl pattern, "Frazzles". NoFrizz10 Specialized Wet Stretch Test Personal Analysis Chart * Suggested Products listed at the end of this blog, based on Frizz Quiz results. * Best Anti-Frizz Hair Products & Best Products For Frizzy Dry Hair are listed below. DESCRIPTION OF CHART with resolutions to improve hair condition. 1-If it snaps right away as you start to stretch it = too much protein. Clarify, omit protein entirely for at least 2 weeks, then test again. And do a deep conditioning treatment 1-2 times a week. (Needs moisture) 2-If it stretches just a bit then snaps = could still use less protein or is a bit dry. Use protein only once and a while: in small amounts not more than once a week, not every time you wash or style. Continue to moisturize hair regularly. (Needs moisture, use protein sparingly) 3-If strand of hair obviously stretches more then one inch without breaking AND shrinks back like a rubber band = your hair is in balance. Alternate between products with and without protein to maintain balance. Do not use any strong treatments. (Alternate at appropriate rate for your hairs personal needs in order to stay balanced) 4-If stand stretches really far, does NOT shrink back after releasing tension and stays "stretched out" = your hair needs protein. Use protein conditioners and styling and refreshing products regularly for a few days till balanced. (If not improving go to category 5) 5- After stretching hair, if it shrinks back into "frazzles" after stretching and does NOT go back into its normal curl pattern then... (You need a deep protein treatment, follow up with a deep conditioning treatment) I HAD PROTEIN OVERLOAD! MY MOISTURE PROTEIN BALANCE WAS OUT OF WHACK! If you need help learning to analyze your own hair or don't understand your results, please book a personalized consult with Athena Padilla. Watch How To Analyze Your Own Hair on my YouTube Channel. *If protein sensitive, add one ingredient with protein, in small amounts, to see how hair reacts. QUIZ RESULTS - EXAMPLES (Not every quiz possibility is shown below.) Let's say that I just got a bad haircut and all my routine products contain protein. My hair feels a bit straw like. I'd probably be a D1. Let's say my hair is balanced and I just didn't use enough gel. I'd be a N3. Let's say my hair has lots of webbing and feels rough and brittle. P1 I just left oil on my hair overnight, didn't get to rinse it out all the way and my hair is looking a bit limp and almost staticky in a few places. O4 I have been using all protein free products for a month. My hair is starting to get little kinky stands at the roots and when I try to smooth in products to lay down the frizz, it just pops back out and separates away from the curl clumps. I also used CG shampoo a couple of times this month and I went a bit too long between refreshing or co washing so my hair is a bit dryer then usual. Dry AND low on protein. KD5 *Protein is not always the cause of dryness. *Sometimes even though hair is dry, it could still need protein. *In this last case, this person needs high protein and high moisture!
